Prof Dato Dr NKS Tharmaseelan is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist by training .He has degrees in Law, Homeopathic Medical Sciences and Forensic & Legal Medicine.
Prof Dato Dr NKS Tharmaseelan is presently Professor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Melaka Manipal Medical College. He was the Vice-Chancellor of the Asia Metropolitan University. He was the President of the Malaysian Medical Association and the Medicolegal Society of Malaysia He served as a Council member of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM) and Board member of the Koperasi Doktor Malaysia.
He served as an appointed member of the Malaysian Health Promotion Board (My Sihat) the ,Malaysian Traditional & Complementary Medicine Council, the Midwifery Board . and Poisons Board of Malaysia.
He serves as member of the Ethics Committees of the Malaysian Medical Council , the Malaysian Medical Association and the Academy of Medicine( AMM). He was the editor of the Ethical Professional Practice Guidelines published by the AMM.
He served in various capacities of the Malaysian Medical Association before serving as the President of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA). He served in several committees of the MMA, notably in the Ethics , Constitution & Resolutions Committee and the Berita MMA for several years . He continues to serve in these MMA committees. He initiated the MMA Volunteer Corp during his tenure as President of the MMA. He also serves as a volunteer for Mercy Malaysia and with KPIM . He was deployed and served in Gaza , Sri Lanka , Indonesia in addition to Gua Musang during the floods. He also served on the Board of Koperasi Doktor- Doktor Malaysia.
He served as the President of the Medico-legal Society of Malaysia for two years .He is invited regularly to give talks on medico-legal matters by medical universities, associations, NGOs and the media. He serves as a Competent Arbitrator of the Malaysian Arbitration Tribunal Establishment (MATE). He served as the medico-legal advisor of the Medical Protection Society for more than a decade.
