Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok is the current President/CEO of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), since 1980 he has 20 illustrious years of service at TAR College that fills the early chapters of his academic career as Lecturer to Principal Lecturer and Head of School of Arts and Science. In 2002, he was seconded to join the newly established Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), as Founding Dean of ICT Faculty and later the Vice President (Academic and Internationalisation). In August 2008 he was appointed as Principal of TAR College and later became the first President/CEO of TAR UC after it was upgraded to TAR UC in May 2013 until retired at September 2018.

Dr Tan, who holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in science from University of Malaya, specialises in the field of Laser and its application in Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR). He is a Fellow of Institute of Physics Malaysia (FIPM) and also Honorary Fellow of Malaysian Scientific Association.

A scholar with extensive experience in teaching, research and managing institution of higher learning. In recognition of his contribution to the nation, Dr. Tan was conferred the award of Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) which carried the title “Datuk” by His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on the occasion of His Majesty’s Birthday on 2nd June 2012.

Similarly in recognition of his contribution to academic works, Dr. Tan was conferred the award of honorary doctorate degree “Doctor of Science” by Campbell University, USA, at its Winter Commencement on December 15,2012. He was also conferred the award of Honorary Doctorate of Sheffield Hallam University, UK, on 28 April 2013 and Honorary Doctorate of Coventry University, UK, on Nov 2015.
